Judge Tony Skoien today said Jezard, who was arrested in May last year after a public tip-off, told police he was a teacher, and had been researching pedophilia on the internet.
“He said he thought there were fewer male teachers these days because of the fear of pedophilia and he searched the internet to define the term and he was looking for evidence that males had sexual relationships with children and didn’t find any,” Judge Skoien said, reading from the police record of interview.
Prosecutor Anthony Gett said this was one of the first arrests for computer accessed child porn under Commonwealth legislation. The legislation carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ jail, twice that set out under Queensland laws.
