i don’t recall any restrictions that the headmaster had when caning. during my canings, my eyes were fixed on looking ahead of me at the door or looking down at the carpet. my hands were on my knees to steady myself. i do know that he swung his arm right back though but don’t know if the cane went above his shoulder or not. this could be judged by the loud whistle of the cane as it came through the air before it makes contact with bottom. my headmaster was an oldish chap and had caned many many bottoms over the years both boys and girls i believe, so he was very experienced and knew how to cane which comes to another point,
