I also went to school in Birmingham at around the same as her and can confirm that corporal punishment for girls was quite common both in my school and others in the area. I can also confirm that she didn’t attend Lakey Lane Primary School as at that time we had a Head Teacher called Mr Burgess who used to cane us on the hands. By us, I mean the boys, as although he may have caned girls, I can’t recall him doing so.
