Our class teacher Mrs W who I endured and hated with a passion for many reasons, had a penchant for making you lower your knee-length socks and then using the ruler across the back of the legs another of her methods was bringing you to the front of the class, making you roll up your shirt sleeve then placing your hand to the opposite shoulder and raining several hard slaps to both the exposed upper and lower arm. Both punishments smarted considerably and painful, If there was a line of girls then you could gain an idea as she moved down the line to her mood and the force was being put behind each slap. When it got to your turn seeing her arm raised between each slap and facing the class added to the punishment.
