I was only able to compare the two punishments in primary school and the cane definitely hurt more. It might be because it was given on the hand whereas the slipper was on my bum. It might also be because the slipper was not used to its fullest extent on us due to our age. I am unable to comment on secondary schools because I was sent to a boys-only boarding school which used the cane as the only method of punishment. I got a fair share of canings there and always in our dorm.
