The next morning as the assembly was about to begin, the headmaster came up on the stage, pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, read out our names asking us to come up on stage.
The large thin cane was brought from his office, adjacent to the hall. “Bend Down” he ordered me. I obeyed, trembling with fear.The cane swung at full arm’s length and came crshing in on my backside. I jumped a bit in pain but had to bend again. The whole exeercise was repeated until I had received the traditional six of the best. The pain was excruciating. I felt for a while that my backside was on fire.
