Woodwork teachers are a funny lot! Ours certainly didn’t use CP, he was normally a very mild and inoffensive chap. However, he was fiercely protective of his glue pot, which simmered constantly in the woodwork room. As a result, it was a frequent amusement undertaken by boys to drop a variety of objects and substances into the pot unobserved with a view to rendering the stuff useless.

The woodwork master’s grief when he found that this had ruined the glue was palpable and piteous to behold. If he caught anyone doing it he could be roused to issue quite strong verbal reprimands, but seldom a detention or similar.

Suffice it to say that after that if, in the spirit of this thread, I’d fancied six of the best, I would merely have had to engineer being observed by a member of staff dropping something in the glue pot and my wish would have been granted!
