I am guessing that she had never been slippered before and so was not quite sure what was going to happen or how painful her slippering was going to be. If the same thing had happened to her again, let’s say the following week, I would expect that the tears would have started flowing during that bizarre preparation at the latest, and maybe even earlier, at the point when he told her that she was to get the same as last week.
