that last part about listening through the door brings me to what I call semi-private punishments. These are the punishments for which a teacher would take a girl to a small room – such as a storage area – within the main classroom, hidden from view but not out of earshot. Or he might take her outside the classroom and then shut the door before slippering her, under the absurd pretence of giving her some privacy during the painful and traumatic ordeal he was putting her through.
