I personally enjoy the role play as much as the CP itself and so a full school uniform is almost essential. Short trousers can emphasize the juvenile status but are lined and offer a little bit more in the way of protection. Unlined longs, or unlined shorts if you can find authentic ones, will allow most of the effects of a caning to be felt – especially if you don’t wear underpants! Generally, I like to be caned over normally lined school shorts (with underpants beneath) followed by caning on my pants, and then bare. I know this is perhaps not as authentic as just caning across shorts but having my shorts and then my pants lowered during a caning really adds to the anticipation, excitement, and fear for me.
