Our boys don’t walk around living in fear – that’s not just my opinion, one of the Universities here does routinely assess student wellbeing and they find our students to be among the happiest and best adjusted around. Why? Well, while we do use corporal punishment, we also take a great deal of care to ensure all punishments – physical and otherwise – are as fair as possible, and only occur when deserved. When we survey boys on punishments in this school, the punishment they express most concern about is actually detention – because it’s the most serious punishment we use for which there is no formal appeals process.
