I can guarantee that if a kid passes gas very loudly in a class full of 5th graders it will disrupt the class. A paddle happy bastard would seize the opportunity to swing that paddle. Wouldn’t you be afraid?
Yes, I would. But I’d focus on addressing that problem by making sure ‘paddle happy bastards’ aren’t teaching, and certainly aren’t authorised to use corporal punishment. I wouldn’t restrict the sensible, rational, and calm teacher in the classroom next door’s ability to do their job properly because of the existence of the paddle happy bastard – doing that simply means that rather than just harm one classroom, you wind up damaging two.
You do not stop the problem of bad teachers by putting restrictions on good teachers.
