In both cases, CP to terrorise and humiliate was going on in SOME of our schools at least into the 1980’s, state and private.
I agree with you-the potential to run a school on the balance of terror principle is always there with CP. Unfortunately, pupils don’t have an adequate response-a true balance of terror would allow them to frag over-brutal teachers without penalty!
And, frankly, just one teacher misusing it is one too many. How many lives will that one stuff up before they are stopped? I found 9 women without too much effort caned bare by Wilfred Ing at Bacons over a 9-year period & he was Head there for over 30 years;not one of those I spoke to a minimum of 28 years after the event has forgotten anything about it.
