It’s not hard to find accounts of people who feel they’d been brutalised by sadistic teachers in school. However I believe they’re vastly outnumbered by people who realised they’d been appropriately punished for wrongdoing and don’t bear a grudge. Go to any poll or discussion which seems to reflect the account of ordinary people and more will wish to see the return of CP in schools than otherwise. I’m not desperately pro-CP, my own kids got through school OK without CP and, if it had been in place, there probably wouldn’t have been much difference to their experience – and frequenting sites such as this I can see the very real possibility of attracting perverts and sadists into the teaching profession. But as far as I can tell that wasn’t most people’s experience, certainly in normal state schools, and if others are convinced that reintroduction of caning, etc would improve behaviour (and the experience of the vast majority of generally well-behaved kids who currently get put upon by the problem ones) then they have a right to say so
