I had a look for my Aberdeen friend’s school. I think it must be the Aberdeen Academy she teaches at. What surprises me though is the fact she appears to be illiterate, all her posts are littered with spelling errors. She too would probably spell cane ” Kane”.This is from an MA graduate in politics from a proper university, Aberdeen, and I have no reason to disbelieve what she says. She also taught for a year in Perth WA.
My Helensburgh cousin is about 5 years younger than me , so we didn’t hang out when I was a teenager. I have no idea whether she was tawsed or not.
Further to your mention of a garage in Dumbarton, this may be the one previously owned by Jackie Stewart’s family. Some years ago I read a story in the paper in which Jackie Stewart said that women are like cars, every so often they need a good thrashing! Can you imagine the reaction if he said that today? The thought of the lovely Helen across his knee is an appealing one though.
