Slipperings were not usually entered into the school punishment book because they simply were not considered severe enough. This allowed many a teacher to avoid putting on record some very hard wallopings. I have seen boys given the slipper whilst only wearing thin PE shorts, some teachers taking run ups, and often more than six strokes. They were usually very red in the face and finding it hard to hold back tears.
