Punishment books were used only to record canings after Infant School. Infant School records do show smacking, but this could be with a ruler rather than a hand.
The best source of records of slippering is the school Log Book. Heads did often slipper and mention made in the log book. This was more of a private record for the school where as the Punishment Book had to be signed by the school board. Teachers did keep notes as to who they had slippered and all the details. One time my PE department kept a record card for each boy. It stated which pe teacher had slippered the boy, why and when along with the number of whacks and what the boy was wearing.
