For a short period , of course we found, of particular interest to me , some Americanisms creeping in , during the incumbency of our visitor from the Confederacy Especially ‘sass’, well its shorter than impertinence or insolence!, Cutting detention at that time became ‘skipping'( large numbers often together on Tuesdays : later less frequent , after doubling the tariff (I assume 5th form boys didn’t generally engage in pursuits involving jumping over ropes! At least I never saw it) ! To our regret , however not a single entry marked ‘tardy’!
