There are some good reasons for having a limit on how far back we should go when prosecuting alleged crimes. The greater the delay in bringing matters the court the greater the difficulty in establishing the facts beyond reasonable doubt. Human memory is notoriously unreliable. Witnesses forget, confuse what they saw with what they were told, and they elaborate their memories to fill in gaps and inconsistencies. Some witnesses die or become untraceable.
