3. Positions for “The Slipper”
The most common position for a quick slippering was with the pupil facing away from the class and touching his toes. The tail of the blazer was then lifted up to prevent it from getting in the way of “The Slipper” to make sure that the bottom was slippered effectively. A variation from this occurred where teachers placed a chair or stool at the front of the class to allow the person who needed to get “The Slipper” to have something to rest their hands on during the punishment. Normally, they would be expected to place their hands on the seat of the stool/chair and take a couple of steps back so that their head was between their arms, their back horizontal and their bottom ready.
