5. Number of strokes.
Sometimes a “quick slippering” would consist of one or two whacks with “The Slipper”. A typical slippering would be two or three. Four usually indicated that this was “quite serious” although there were some teachers who just gave a set tariff of four or five with “The Slipper” for all offenses and “six of the best” was quite rare.
