At first there were no recriminations, but when the whistle blew and the classes formed their line up, the girls nose bleed was spotted by one of the teachers. This young lady questioned the girl as to how it had happened and the reply came without equivocation, that I had pushed her into the wall. Everyone knew that this was an over simplification of the facts but with discipline very strict, no talking unless spoken to during line up, was carefully observed. The girl with the bloody nose was whisked away to the medical room (basically a cupboard with a box of plasters in those days)whilst I was propelled to wait outside the headmaster’s office.
