Finally, there have been comments indicating that it would be exceedingly rare for a female teacher to overstep the mark when caning a boy. Not perhaps as rare as we might think. Simply never reported or brought to anyones attention. As an example my own brother attended the same school some five years after me, when one day I found a letter in my parents bureau. It was a personal letter of apology from a lady teacher, because in the course of striking my brothers behind with a long steel ruler (apparently used in needlework of all things) cuts requiring stitches ensued. Now, neither my brother or my parents had told me about this (I was living away from home at the time).
