Let me give you a British example, taken from an investigation by a Midlands lea . This was NOT a school I was involved with. School ‘X’ came to attention, following several parental complaints because of its high rate of caning. A boy’s school with a small role (701) it recorded * 324 canings administered by the staff in two terms. When the figures were analysed further it appeared that 129 pupils were caned in the year ( giving an average of around 2.5 canings per student caned. Looking further, 16 of these 129 accounted for 185 canings, in other words, received an average of 5/6 canings each in two terms.
