I have to believe that we are better to understand openly the workings of the system in a clear and transparent manner. What is the alternative? Going back to the pre-enlightenment days when decisions were taken on the prerogative, justified by god. Indeed, what went on behind closed doors, was meant to frighten the rabble into blind obedience.

I can see no issue of principle, or practical pedagogy, that can justify allowing, indeed encouraging, practices to take place behind closed doors in the modern world unless it is to conceal those practices because those who participate know/believe that bringing these practices into the light of day would expose their institutions to opprobrium.
