The other astonishing thing was the frequency of spankings. As well as individual spankings, there was a weekly punishment book for each of the years, so most evenings there was a small queue waiting to go into his study. One girl claimed that she was spanked usually every week, at least once every other week, throughout her seven years. I think that comes to around 200 spankings!
The same girl also said that on five or six occasions her offences were considered so grave that he had to consider suspending her and phoning her parents to remove her from the school. This always made her very distressed and he would quickly calm her by saying that he did not want to do this and would rather settle it secretly between themselves with a caning. She said that she agreed to this each time, and she claimed that the canings were very hard and took a long time to complete.
