I went to 14 schools due to my father being in the R.A.F. One of my schools in the sixties was in Stowmarket in Suffolk, a co-ed grammar. I was young, a second and third former during my stay.. a real likely lad, cocky and good looking. It was an enjoyable period. We played both Rugby and Association football, we had a cracking uniform ( a black blazer with red and yellow pinstripes), the girls wore maroon tops with grey skirts and a maroon and white striped dress in the summer. And it was a time of awakening adolescence and the East Anglian girls were divine!
But the head had unusual views. He certainly seemed to me, even at that age, to be an extreme misogynist. I recall a time when a friend was showing me a secret love letter which we viewed one break in the privacy of a toilet cubicle. Unfortunatelyone of the duty teachers was doing a sweep and discovered us.
