At the school, girls were rarely whacked on the bottom. In fact I only once saw a girl caned. It was an attractive redhead who complained after being given some written punishment that it was unfair that she couldn’t be caned like the boys. We were in the third year so she must have been about fourteen years old. The teacher was a tough Welshman and although he wasn’t our form master, he kept a cane in a cupboard in our classroom. I dont know if he had canes distributed all over the school or if we were a particularly unruly class but he was always very quick to administer corporal punishment. He also caned pupils in front of the class which was unusual as canings were normally given in the privacy of the headmasters study.
