“No Spockings, I do not waste time giving out lines. My approach to dealing with boys in need of corporal punishment is to give them a thrashing that they will never forget or want repeated. Occasionally regrettably it is necessary to beat a boy a second time – like the two boys before you who were caught smoking again – but I have never had a boy in here for a third beating. No – I know that lines will not deter you from misbehaving again. Furthermore, I have checked your class record and I must say I am very disappointed. You passed your 11 plus exam with a very high mark but now you are in my school your performance has been woeful and certainly not good enough for you to stay in the “A” stream.
