The school was comprised of a mixture of very old and very modern buildings. The original old building, which housed the sixth form classes, the Prefects Common Room, the senior master’s rooms, the admin block, the library, and the Headmaster’s study, were now surrounded by more modern buildings including the gym, the science block and the auditorium where assembly was held each morning. Thus I had quite a walk from the auditorium to the old buildings and plenty of time to ponder upon my probable fate. Such was my concern about being called to this formidable man’s study that for once the prospect of corporal punishment being applied to my backside had no appeal at all and I was not the least bit aroused.
