“You must be Spockings – take a seat next to the other two boys. The Headmaster will be dealing with you last.”

I did as I was asked. The other boys were much older than I – probably fourth or fifth formers – and both looked very apprehensive. For the first time, I noticed that there was a red and green light above the Headmaster’s study door. The red light was on indicating no admittance but as I watched it went off and the green light came on. An intercom on Miss Evans’s desk buzzed and I heard the Headmaster’s deep voice.
