That period of 3 days when the results of tests were handed back must have been extremely stressful for the boys concerned. Receiving 12 strokes in itself must have hurt atrociously and left the boy concerned with a very sore backside. The thought of having to present his bottom for further treatment required a great deal of will power if not absolute bravery. I can only imagine the state of mind of a boy sitting an English Literature exam not recognising the text quoted on the paper knowing that the lack of revision two or three days later would result in a damn good tanning across his backside
