Reading out the marks in Song Contest fashion must have been a very tense affair particularly for the boy who suspected his name would be the last to be read out. Also as he made his way to the front and watched his classmates receive their slipperings knowing that soon it would be his turn to present his bottom for 12 full blooded whacks would have been traumatic to say the least.
If he then made his way to the next lesson knowing that there was a good chance he would get another good hiding must have made concentration very difficult – I can only sympathise.”
