Getting 12 of the best was extremely painful. The whacks were given hard and were meant to hurt. The slipper caused a sharp stinging pain that burned away and got more intense as the whacking proceeded because the same area kept getting hit. The pain built up in a terrific crescendo and was close to unbearable by the end. Fortunately, it subsided fairly quickly; the worst of it was over within around 45 seconds after the end of the whacking. By the end of the lesson one just felt a warm glow. Getting whacked again at the start of the next lesson was certainly bad but what I found even worse was getting it a few hours later. By then a much deeper soreness had set in. The flesh was quite raw and bruised, so when the same area got hit again it produced a different, even nastier sort of pain.
