If a boy was informed that he was going to be slippered did he just accept his fate or did he offer excuses eg I wasn’t able to revise because …. or did he beg his teacher not to slipper him because he was just downright scared.
If it was the latter two was he seen as a bit of a coward by his classmates or perhaps “I’m glad it’s not me and I don’t blame him for not wanting his bottom soundly whacked.
If a boy tried to make case to avoid the punishment would the master concerned increase the severity of the punishment as a “reward” for trying to duck out of a deserved slippering
