A considerable element of being caned is the mental anguish as opposed to the physical anguish. Lets be honest those of us that have been caned all knew beforehand that we werent going to be physically disabled, the skin wasnt going to be broken, it was going to hurt, but thats about it. The foreknowledge of though is dreadful. Imagine knowing in advance that you were going to bang your head on low beam, and then being made to do it five hours time.
