The second time the cane was given by the Head ….six of the best. It was, frankly, something of a grudge match, as it was my pig headed stubbornness, and insisting on making a very clear political point that got me there (moi? never!!!! ) . Right from the fist stroke it was clear he meant business, and he wasn’t in a great hurry to finish either! After the fourth stroke I was having the greatest difficulty in maintaining my composure, but whether it was because we were coming to the end, or whether his annoyance was assuaged( he was annoyed and irritated with me rather than frankly angry ) I really don’t know. Five and six sort of maintained the level of four and were very painful, but no more painful, and I managed to stick it out without breaking., and managed to shake his hand when proffered, a primeval tradition he encouraged …!
