By now it was nearly 8.45 and time to go into the playground with the bell. Looking carefully at my watch I would ring it dead on 8.45. any boy that was not in the playground before I rang the bell was regarded as being late and sent to stand against the wall. The boys would then line up and I would see them at school, where their teachers (hopefully) were waiting in the class for them. By now it would be about 8.50 and had to be in the hall for assembly at 9.05. The boys on the wall had to follow me into my study. They were late and their were no excuses for lateness. They all walked to school so the old one of the car not starting did not work. The excuse that mum was late calling them was not accepted as they were supposed to do basic things for themselves, like getting up. Their just was no excuse and very few tried to make one as they knew it would be pointless.
