Two of the Three R’s in 1956 3

There was no 3rd warning & I reckon in my 15 months or so there, at least a dozen kids received slaps after warning number 2.

At least a couple of boys and a couple of girls just couldn’t get it right, got up to 6 slaps & were then given another 6 or 4 smacks over Miss knee.

Whether that did much for them, God knows, but I bet Janet & John and Noddy got a captive audience for the rest of our class time in infants, in case we got caught out!

Luckily, I could read from age 3 and always did like the sound of my own voice and an audience, so this was not a problem area.
