The caning of girls incidents you have previously discussed here was, I think, in the 1970s, so I’m assuming that you would have been somewhere in your 30s at the time. You and I are both of an age now where we might consider 30, or even 40 to be ridiculously young. However, I think that for most people my qualifications ‘young’ and ‘younger’ with regard to the males administering CP would suggest ages in the 20s rather than the 30s, and that was how I intended my comment to be interpreted. In short, and I trust that this doesn’t offend you, I judged that when you caned those girls you were outside the age range I was thinking of. Maturity and experience bring a different view of life and professional duties, and the sentiments you experienced were not, I suspect, the same as those that a man 10 years younger might have felt. Clearly it would not have been appropriate for me to refer to your observations on the subject, but I certainly took account of them!
