I actually attended a private girls school in the North of England. I would stress however that caning on the bottom was not the usual practice. It was only the Deputy Head who caned in this manner. I realise now that her demeanour when caning us was such that she was obviously an enthusiast of corporal punishment.Whilst not administering the cane arbitrarily it was quite apparent that she welcomed and exploited fully every opportunity to have someone bent over for the cane.
