When I was at school in the 80’s in Australia they had the strap and cane. The strap was used almost daily on the hands and the cane only by the principal on the bum. The cane was not used much at all.
I recall that the boys got the strap as soon as the sentence was passed and the girls were made to take a note home.
In our school, the cane was much worse as it was always 6 of the best as a min and always on the bottom. Yes, girls got the same as boys, and if there were boys and girls to get it at the same time you all got it. That is there was no private caning for the girls.
