Having had the cane and slipper and slipper on my hand and bottom I can try to make some comparisons. First we need to consider canings are not all the same wherever they’re applied. One caning of X strokes will be different from another – especially where different teachers were involved. With that caveat in mind, I think being caned or slippered on the hand is worse. I tend to rate the three strokes I got on my hand (the only time I got the cane on my hand) as being the worst caning I got. The only real contender was my last caning of, what I call, six of the VERY best. However, a few other factors need to be considered. The three on my hand was my very first taste of the cane. They were administered by a different headmistress from the one who gave me my last caning. I was 12 when I got those three strokes and sixteen when I got my last caning. I had a bit of experience in between those canings too. Taking everything into account as best I can, I think having it on the hand is worse.
