I was caned on my hands three times during my 13 years of schooling. I was caned twice in primary school and once in high school having attended state schools for my education. While I did not experience bottom caning I would imagine that being caned on the hands would have hurt more. Furthermore you could see the cane swishing down towards your hand. There were cane marks on my hands that took 3 days to fully dissipate. The marks were white where the cane landed and had a red line surrounding the imprint of the cane. In high school my deputy headmaster caned me across the tips of my fingers which hurt a great deal more than on the palms of my hands.
