I was frequently both caned and strapped, but nearly always on my bare bum, as was usual at the private prep school I attended in the 50’s Our form teacher a Mr Baker used to seem to get delight that when he punished you it was ‘a baker’s dozen’ i.e 13 whacks. You had to drop your short grey trousers (we didn’t ware any pants) bend over the desk and he used a tawse with two splits in the end to give it more sting. I used to end up belly across the desk at least once a week. Other boys would tease that Tanner got tanned, because boys are cruel to each other perhaps its the relief that they weren’t getting a hiding.
