The girl, 14, 15 maybe, duly rapidly boarded and we set off down Lomondside. A shy young man, I didn’t make conversation other than to confirm the route. I drove circumspectly, so as not to alarm my young passenger. Fairly soon however the young lady decided that I wasn’t going fast enough. To my total consternation she announced that she’d get belted if we didn’t get there in time! I would have dearly liked to question her on this. Although I had some interest in school CP I’d never heard of belting as a school punishment, and I certainly wouldn’t have expected a girl to be corporeally punished for being late.
