“Because, in my view, it’s truly immoral to let a child fail to grow up into a disciplined adult, if there were things that were in your power to try and you refused to try them because you found them unpleasant or unpalatable, or would have preferred not to use them. It’s highly immoral for a school to give up on educating a child – by, for example, expelling them or excluding them – unless and until they have tried everything in their power to improve that child’s behavior. And my experience tells me very clearly that for some children corporal punishment will lead to improvements in their behavior and their future prospects where other methods have failed, and that for even more children corporal punishment will lead to improvements and outcomes for those children with less possibility of negative side effects than other methods and approaches. ”
