Kids with goals and purpose in their lives are the ones who achieve and behave. They have responsibilities. They have chores to do that contribute to the welfare of the family. They are valued for their contribution. They get satisfaction from their steadily increasing range of skills and knowledge. They are not constantly praised for each and every little thing they do. Their big achievements are acknowledged and praised.

Corporal punishment contributes little to the raising of kids although it can be handy to have available, especially in places like schools.
