I’ve discussed with former pupils, who could reel off 12-15 slippering teachers out of the 60 or so at our school in their day-their day varying from between about 1948 through to 1960.
I can’t think of more than six(surprise, surprise), including both PE teachers(no surprise) when I started & not one when I left.
Most of them in my time were in-class merchants & 2 or 3 was enough. Never girls, though,sorry, but it was a boys’ grammar!
Canings were in the privacy of Headmaster’s study, or Deputy Head or Lower School Master-no reported trousers down stuff in my day, but up to 1959 or so, this seemed to be ordered about half the time.
