After myself and cousin Karen had gone to bed, Nanny Mitchel who had dropped off to sleep on the sofa was not long in coming up to bed herself.
An ever-perceptive cousin Karen knew this as she had heard her come up the creaky staircase.
Cousin Karen waited for ten or so minutes until she knew that the coast was clear and everyone was sound asleep.
Once she knew it was all safe to do so she quietly got up and tip-toed to the wardrobe to retrieve a little brief case that she always bought with her when ever she was away from home.
Over the years Karen the family had always wondered why cousin Karen always insisted on taking this little briefcase along with her when ever she was away from home.
Family members would make unfunny jokes were always made about the briefcase whilst trying to outdo each other.
One particular uncle annoyingly teased her as to what the contents were, as cousin Karen had always labeled it her secret briefcase.
However, despite other family members’ morbid curiosity,Karen had managed to keep it all exactly that.
A Secret.
Gently placing the briefcase on her bed, Cousin Karen opened the briefcase and took out what was known as her book of shadows.
In short this book of shadows was really a diary.
However, it was a Diary with a difference.
For in this book of shadows cousin Karen would only record magickal events of the day,
As well as these magickal events of the day cousin Karen would make up spells.
These spells would act as a solution to any Magickal problems cousin karen may encounter throughout the day.
For example, cousin karen had already some time ago conjured up a spell that would stop being smacked from hurting.
It is safe to say that cousin Karen’s parents, Aunty Doreen and Uncle Geralds were fairly liberal in their ways.
Neither of them believed in smacking as they were intelligent enough to see it as a complete waste of time.
However because cousin Karen would periodically stay the weekend at Nanny Mitchels, sometimes alone and sometimes with me, she knew that she would at times face being smacked.
This had already happened once before, for being insolent to Nanny Mitchel where Karen had received six of the best with Nanny Mitchel’s trusty carpet slipper.
So cousin Karen knew from her own experience how these smacking would hurt.
With this in mind cousin Karen had conjured up a spell to stop them doing so.
She knew this spell worked as a week later Karen had been insolent to Nanny Mitchel again on purpose and received another dose of the slipper.
However, there had been one difference this time.
This time, although the slippering had been somewhat harder, it had not hurt at all.
With this in mind Cousin Karen quickly scribbled what she saw as an emergency note.
This note simply read.
Conjur up a spell to stop pointless smackings from hurtings my cousin Patricia.
Having written this cousin Karen knew that she would be unable to work this spell tonight as there was simply not enough time.
As well as this Karen had thought of a second emergency note.
This note read.
Get Patricia to learn her time’s table before Mrs Hegitey beats it into her.
Cousin Karen decided that there may be a quicker solution to this particular emergency note.
This would be that tomorrow, after Sunday School, she would have to manipulate a game of schools again where she would continue to try and teach me my timetables.
It was obviously no great secret that my ever-astute cousin Karen was a mistress of manipulation.
As Aunty Shirley could with Nanny Mitchel, cousin Karen could also wrap me around her finger and get me to do things that I may not wish to do.
In the Past, when I had been an annoying little male, trying to do all the macho things annoying little males do, cousin Karen had sometimes been unkind with these manipulative powers, getting me into a lot of trouble in the process.
However, now that I had had a somewhat forced gender change, cousin Karen would be performing somewhat more sympathetic magick, as my gender was now far more agreeable.
From now on, cousin Karen would be using her magick to help me.
Bearing in mind my current situation where aspects of my life had changed at the rate of knots, it was fairly obvious that in the coming times I was going to need all the help I could get.
However once cousin Karen made a commitment, that commitment was sacred and thus would be honored.
In cousins karens book of shadows was also a heading which said “Future Notes.”
These particular notes were not as important as the emergency notes, however, given time they would still need some attention.
It had been a very long day for all concerned and there was much to write.
In short these notes consisted of the following.
Minimize Aunty Shirley’s manipulative influence on Nanny Mitchel before things get out of hand.
It is true to say Aunty Shirley was viewed as somewhat of a higher class to Nanny Mitchel, however in reality this was not overly high.
Whereas Nanny Mitchel had spent most of her life as a cleaner and somewhat as a skivvy for other people, Aunty Shirley was a school secretary.
However, these differences in occupations were at times overplayed by Aunty Shirley.
Cousin Karen knew that having been a school secretary all of her working life, Aunty Shirley had hardly achieved the greatest of career accolades
It certainly was not an achievement that gave her rights over what she termed as a mere cleaner.
Something else Karen had noticed about Aunty Shirley was her annoying habit of quoting from the bible every time she wished to make a point to anyone.
So far as Aunty Shirley was concerned, if it was written in the bible it was the law.
Cousin Karen was wise enough to know this was not true.
However, sadly it appeared Nanny Mitchel was not as wise.
Aunty Shirley would constantly use these bible quotes to manipulate things to go her own way.
Something else Cousin Karen had noticed whilst in the school outfitters was that Aunty Shirley had taken somewhat of a shine to the shop assistant, Sandra, who just so happened to be Nanny Mitchel’s next-door neighbor.
As to whether this shine was merely friendly or something possibly a little more sinister, cousin Karen would need to work out.
However, having said all this cousin Karen felt that she would need to keep her third eye on all of this.
It seemed at this time these thoughts were enough to be going along with.
Cousin Karen was now also becoming very tired.
She knew that she needed to make some notes on Mrs Hegitey as well as she had done so with Aunty Shirley.
However, this could all wait as Mrs Hegitey would not be around for a week.
At least that is what Karen thought.
However, like most things, not everything always goes to plan.
